Absolutely heartbroken by the news of Trick and Karin Weekes being laid off from Bioware by EA. They were the last true veterans and original creators of DA that were still there, and this truly feels like the final nail in the coffin for beloved studio and franchise.

The way EA systematically drained and destroyed this studio and the franchise too over the years is nothing short of criminal! it all started with that cursed Anthem, than pushing Bioware to make the kind of games it doesn't want to, scraping amazing projects, putting them through decade of development hell, chasing away half of original veteran devs and professionals, and laying off the other half over last few years.. EA's CEO talking bout how AI is at the core of their business six months ago.... It all makes me sick to my stomach! At this point I will never give another cent to EA for anything. DA franchise might be over but lives on in our hearts and through our art and fics and love for this characters and the world. that's what we have left and they can't take away from us. I hope EA crashes and burns in every way possible.

this is the first time i agree with the "bioware is dead" comments

i don't care about anyone they've kept to work on mass effect really

Trick wrote the bulk of Lair of the Shadow Broker and Citadel DLCs and also wrote Mordin in ME3. Their first writer job was 20 years ago on ME1.

so, to me, not hiring them to work on the next Mass Effect makes absolutely no sense

they've also fired Trick's wife, Karin Weekes. they have children and I remember Trick complaining about the high cost of childcare in Canada before.

Trick has a "Dungeons & Dragons"-style trilogy of books that I recommend purchasing if you want to give back to a dev and author who has given us so many good memories.

The book series is called "Rogues of the Republic" and should be read in this order:

The Paladin Caper (2015)

buy from your local bookstore if possible. get them on loan from your local library if you want to read them without paying (that's how I first experienced them).

I have met a few of Bioware's past (some recently, some earlier) writers at a few cons.

To a one, they were delightful, passionate, deeply creative people who cared so much about the stories they were telling. About the characters they created, and loved connecting with fans.

This isn't Bioware's first strike against the people who have breathed life into their games and worlds, the very *reason* we love Thedas so much.

But it might be the final one that breaks it all apart, and that makes me so so sad.

😞 At least Inky and Solas got to ride off into the sunset. Gosh, it’s over. It’d be so funny if BioWare sold off the rights to Dragon Age to @johnlarian and they made it 1000% more amazing because they give it the time and space to breathe.

Larian, are you hiring? Because EA just laid off their best talent and most senior devs because of a bad quarter. God, how stupid.

Fans have absolutely no idea of the struggle that goes into working on a project you love in the video game industry. How much heart, effort and mental health goes into developing a game. There is no excuse under the sun for this behaviour, I just wish there was a way to hold these people accountable.

funniest and most heartwarming thing i rediscovered on my rewatch is when karin roasts sakura about poisoning naruto and then kakashi, who loves all of his kids very much and understands their behavior and isn’t upset with them about their choices but has also been under ABSURD amounts of stress for all of season 10, just bursts out laughing ❤️

he was a punk, she did ballet typa story with grimmichi, but both of them are punk, and both of them do ballet.

this one is an AU where they're just humans, but Ichigo is still a weirdo who sees ghosts, cause why the fuck not. also, long-haired Grimmjow.

in Ichigo's case, it's that he did ballet. why? let's imagine Masaki sending Yuzu to ballet classes when she's four because the girl is fascinated by the beautiful women dancing in white tutus on TV in one of her mum's shows. Masaki is afraid her small, gentle, and shy daughter will have a hard time making friends with all the new kids, so she tries to convince Karin to go with her sister, at least for the first few classes, but the girl is unwavering in her refusal. she would hate to pressure her children into anything, so accepts, and as a last resort goes to her older son. young and filled with the desire to protect his family and please his mother, Ichigo says he'll go with Yuzu.

and so on top of his karate, Ichigo also does ballet for a while, so his baby sister will have an easier time adjusting. he actually likes it too, but then mum dies, and the beautiful women dancing on TV she used to watch no longer bring fascination, only tears. so they no longer do ballet and that is that.

everything else after that is much the same: Ichigo gets bullied, puts the karate classes to use and becomes a delinquent. all is well until one day Yuzu comes to him, timid and unsure, putting Ichigo on high alert, fearing someone has hurt his sister (a big mistake they'll regret and learn not to repeat), but all she says is that she wants to try dancing again. he, of course, encourages her to try.

like the good older brother Ichigo is, he comes along for her first class as moral support. Yuzu is amazing, as expected, and he definitely feels some water in his eyes watching her dance, which no one needs to know that. BUT, there's this guy, who seems to be his age, training on the opposite side of the room. beautiful and mesmerizing, and so ethereal Ichigo can hardly look away. the way he moves is enchanting, his long blue hair swaying and spiralling into a snake with each spin. he leaves with a happy Yuzu for their little sibling celebration with Karin, filled to the brim with confusion.

time goes on, but he simply can't get the guy out of his head, and one evening he comes to walk Yuzu home (he is not about to let his baby sister walk alone in the darkness of winter). he's a little early, so the class is yet to finish, but oh wait, there's the guy standing outside. one thing leads to another aaaand... they're fighting. positively rolling on the ground like children. and like a child Grimmjow (cause that's his name apparently, which Ichigo doesn't even remember when he was told that) bites his hand, so like a child Ichigo tugs on his blue hair. it's soft and nice, and he's getting distracted. but then Yuzu is yelling at him, calling him a foolish boy (and he won't even argue, because he really is a fool).

so yes, turns out they both were punks and both did ballet.

Marina is a transgender woman with kinks and a sex drive. Also did not treat her stalker's mental health with enough sensitivity which makes her ableist

Olivia openly questioned her sexuality which is appropriating LGBT experiences for clout (she apologized)

Levi traumadumped one time which is emotionally abusive, posted about struggling to pay his rent as an addict which was clearly a ploy to get people to send him money so he could feed his addiction (he no longer posts to twitter)
